The 40th Annual Street Rod Nationals was held this weekend at the York Fairgrounds in York, PA. The weather was an issue Thursday and Friday as it was in Carlisle for the Ford Nats. I arrived at York early on Sunday morning with a clear and sunny sky and warm weather to photograph the event. The massive parking lots in front and back of the grandstand were filling up with street and hot rods as were people setting up their viewpoint seats in front of the showplace arena building street to watch the "cruzin" cars.
I spent some time walking around the parking lots talking to some of the hot rod owners and fans while taking a number of shots. All of these cards are absolutely gorgeous and the loving and care the owners give to these cars is obvious. 99% of these cars are "garage kept" and, except for the rare drive on weekends and holidays, are treated like a family member and are prepped and polished on a daily basis. The owners were busy polishing every fender, window, and bolt on all the cars that were on the lot.
After walking through the lots, I ventured in to the Toyota Pavilion to check out the various indoor displays and vendors. There were the usual type of vendors...local business's, auto/street rod suppliers, T-shirt printers...but there was one that stood out to me...the guy that was selling the neon signs. Check out the images in the gallery.
After grabbing a bite to eat, I headed outside to shoot the cruzers. I picked out a shady spot and started to shoot. Just about all the rods on the property made the drive up and down the road in front of the Toyota Arena and they looked great. From street rods to hot rods to antiques and souped up hot rods, it appeared that every car on the property made a cruz on the street.
As previously mentioned, the crummy weather on the east coast put a damper on activities Thursday and Friday, but Saturday and Sunday made up for it.
